Historical Aircraft Monument RI.001 Seulawah

The monument commemorates the valiant donation of the Acehnese people to the central government during the struggle for Indonesian Independence. In response to President Soekarno's appeal for aid to push back Dutch re-occupation of the country, the Acehnese collected 20 kg of golds to buy a Douglas DC-3. The aircraft was the first in the fleet of Garuda Indonesia, the natural airlines. The monument is erected at one corner of Blang Padang area (esplanade) in the heart of the city.
